DETAILED ITINERARY
Day 1: Transfer from Kampala to Mgahinga Gorilla national park
You will be picked up from your hotel, where you will have spent a night before the safari begins on day 1 of the 4-day Mgahinga Gorilla Trekking & Golden Monkey tracking safari tour and embark on the road drive towards the western part of Uganda.
Enjoy a stopover at the equator for some experiments and photographs, then proceed to Mbarara City for a lunch break. After lunch precedes your journey from Mbarara via Ntungamo as you view beautiful farms with Ankole cattle grazing.
Head to Kabale, a beautiful district with plenty of thrilling and stunning hills, and continue your journey to Kisoro where you will be transferred to Mgahinga gorilla national park and check into your booked lodge for refreshing, dinner and overnight
Day 2: Gorilla trekking
Have an early morning breakfast, then pack all your gorilla trekking gear and be transferred to the headquarters of Mgahinga Gorilla National Park for a gorilla trekking briefing. After the briefing, hire a porter and penetrate deep into the forest for a gorilla trekking adventure.
You will trek via different trails up and down the hill until you finally land on the habituated Nyakagezi gorilla family. Spend a maximum duration of one hour with the gorillas and later on return to the office to meet your driver for a ride back to the lodge for relaxation and lunch.
In the afternoon, there is an option of Batwa trail in the local village, Then dinner and overnight stay at your booked lodge (lunch and dinner).
Day 3: Golden monkey tracking.
After a morning breakfast on the third day, meet your safari driver for a transfer for a briefing again before embarking on this half-day golden monkey tracking. Tracking golden monkeys is more interesting and fun as the pretty little primates are jumping from one tree branch to another, cheerfully swinging the tail.
Unlike gorilla trekking, golden monkey tracking allows travelers to capture the photographs even with the flashlight of the camera on. After tracking the golden monkey, you will return to the lodge for lunch and have a relaxed evening or optionally opt for a guided nature walk in the forest or the Batwa trail in case you didn’t do it the previous evening.
Note: Golden Monkey tracking can also be substituted with a golden monkey habituation experience, which is a full-day activity Then after dinner and an overnight stay at the lodge you booked.
Day 4: Return to Kampala for departures
On the last day, you have two options of departures, one being a drive back to Kampala and transfer to Entebbe International Airport, while another one being a drive to Kigali International Airport, which is the shorter journey as compared to a drive back to Kampala. But the choice is probably yours.
