Akagera Transit Lodge is a new community-built mid-range accommodation situated 2 km from Akagera National Park in the Eastern Province of Rwanda. The lodge is convenient and business-friendly to tourists, travellers and holidaymakers who want to discover and explore the park with its beautiful views.

Location.

The lodge is set 22 km from Kayonza and 31 km from Rwamagana District. It takes approximately a 1-2 hour drive from Kigali International Airport to Akagera National Park or 30 minutes to fly to Akagera Aviation and then a few minutes to be transferred to the hotel.

 Akagera Transit Lodge contains over 13 spacious and comfortable soundproofed rooms with the view of the gardens and the beauty of the nature reflecting the traditional Rwandan building style with a high level of comfort.

 Rooms are well decorated with timber and furnished with en-suite facilities of flushing toilets, hot and cold showers, mosquito nets, complementary bottled water, hand wash basins, free toiletries, chairs and tables, white duvets and pillows and many more.

All rooms have large sitting areas, verandas and terraces that give a fantastic view of the gardens and surrounding landscape.

 Rooms are equipped with comfortable queen and clean bedding that vary in different sizes with single beds for individuals, double twin beds for more people and designed for family rooming options.

There is a fireplace pit where guests relax during evenings and share stories/experiences about the safari; it also provides warmth to the visitors staying at the lodge during the chill weather.

A restaurant in the main building that serves different flavored cuisines both African-inspired and international, that meets guests’ choices served by organized, friendly and well-trained staff. Meals include buffet breakfast, lunch and dinner. You can have meals on the veranda/terraces overlooking the garden. Bush dinners overlook the stars in the sky and bush/garden breakfasts enjoy the morning sunrise.

Activities to do while at the lodge include game viewing in the park that gives a chance to see a wide range of animals like elephants, antelopes, etc., and nature walks and community visits, to mention but a few.

Akagera National Park is found in the eastern part of Rwanda country close the border with Tanzania. Though Rwanda has different national park (Nyungwe and Volcanoes National Park), Akagera is among the best and most visited park in Rwanda. The park occupies the total area of 1,122km squared. The park   is characterized by woodlands, swamps, savannah and low mountains.

Akagera National Park is the home of various wildlife with over 20 mammal species, which include buffaloes, elephants, over 15 lions in the park, zebras, impalas, antelopes, giraffes, hyenas, leopards, hippos, Crocodiles etc and over 480 bird species, which include fish eagles, cattle egrets, hammerkops, sacred ibises, Hadada ibises, augur buzzards, long-crested eagles, piedcrows, black-headed weavers, Viellot’s black weavers, grey-backed fiscals, fan-tailedd Widowbird and Caruther’s cisticolas.

Akagera National Park has different accommodations namely; Budget , Mid range and luxury accommodations which are the best and affordable to the guests visiting the park. There are many activities to do while in the park, including both day and night game drives that enable visitors to spot different mammals and bird species.

Bird watching/birding since the park has more bird species, Nature walks in the park, boat rides, and canoeing at Lake Rwanyakasinga that offers you a stunning view of the surrounding hills and swamp while expecting to see hippos, crocodile and bird species. Fishing at lake shakani, helicopter adventures in the park, Community visits in the local villages, cultural experiences, and many activities. You can also do gorilla trekking while at the lodge.
